    That a closed meeting of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee be held pursuant to Section 239 (2) of the Municipal Act for the purposes of considering the following subject matters;    

    Personal matters about an identifiable individual, including municipal or local board employees, litigation or potential litigation, including matters before administrative tribunals, affecting the municipality or local board.

    Carried Unanimously

    The Committee reconvened into the open meeting at 6:17 p.m.

Closed Meeting
 

Letters from two individuals were received by the Committee during the closed meeting. The letters were sent in regards to a confidential workplace complaint about the Town of Orangeville employee vaccine policy. The Committee read the correspondence via a virtual screen-sharing, shared by the Secretary, but did not receive a copy. Chair Post clarified that the Committee's mandate did not extend to workplace matters, and did not have the authority to intervene in Town policies.  General Manager, Andrea McKinney, advised that Town staff would follow up with the individuals. No concerns were raised by Committee members with this information.

9.1
Updated Community Survey
 

The community survey draft was updated and is available for testing. The survey will be sent to the Town Communications Division to ensure it is accessible. Members will review online survey for any technical difficulties. 

9.2
Working Group Updates
 

The Community Survey Working Group will meet next week to discuss launching the survey.

The Holi Festival Working Group arranged for a Mayor's Proclamation of Holi, on Friday March 18 at 9 a.m. Event details will be shared with the Town Communications Division and the Orangeville Public Library, and business owners, for advertisement.

Remembrance Day Celebration Ideas
 

Suggestions included adding more flags representing various groups, inviting a member of the Indigenous community to speak at the event, and adding educational content to the event. Ideas to be discussed further at future Committee meetings, and added as an ongoing agenda item.

New Business
 

Theatre Orangeville will re-open in March, with safety protocols in place.  The production, "Things My Fore-Sisters Saw", to open March 3. Future programming will continue to include equity, diversity and inclusion considerations.

Co-chair Andrews acknowledged Ms. Nancy Simms for her presentation to the Committee in January.

The annual event, "Celebrate Your Awesome", to take place downtown Orangeville on June 18.

The Orangeville Public Library event, "Black Authors, Black Voices", to take place February 22, at 7 p.m. Pre-registration is required.
