The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m.

Presentation by Kylie-Anne Grube, Climate Engagement Specialist and Sara Wicks, Manager of Energy and Climate from Dufferin County to discuss Climate Action in Dufferin and a Bike Month initiative for June.

Planning a Community Bike Ride event June 25 with bike booth stops along the ride.  Requesting assistance from the committee; to have a Sustainable Orangeville Committee booth and for volunteers to assist in event planning.
J. Lemon and M. Whitcombe volunteered to assist with event planning and G. Peters will take the lead on organizing a committee presence at the event.

Confirmation of the enrolment in the Communities in Bloom non-competitive program for 2022.  Judges evaluation tour will occur July 12-14, 2022.  Additional tasks and meetings to ensue for the planning of the tour.  Discussions to continue for volunteer recruitment for CiB.

Member Valerie Nilsson provided the committee all the information on the Ride to Market event planned for May 21st.  Official campaign to launch during Earth Week, with support from BIA, Dufferin County, and Town of Orangeville. 

Martina Rowley provided an update on an association meeting and discussed the potential expansion ideas for Urban Harvest.

    That the Sustainable Orangeville Committee will pay the invoice received from Branching Out Support Services Inc. in the amount of $181.62 for the materials to construct bat boxes.

Chair Peters advised the committee that General Manager, Ray Osmond is drafting a new community garden policy that outlines a clear framework and division of tasks for the gardeners.  Further information to be provided to the committee in the future. 

The Committee reviewed the letter from Starbucks with respect to programs or initiatives.  The committee will send over the Earth Week events line up, Urban Harvest volunteer information, and discuss potential refreshment sponsorship for community events.  Chair Peters will draft a letter of response on behalf of the committee with the assistance of the Committee Secretary.

Earth Week Event Line-Up

April 19, 7:00 p.m. - Bat Box Information Session (virtual)

April 20, 7-9 p.m.. - Bike Repair Workshop (in-person) - location within Rec Centre (specifics are TBA)

April 21, 7:00 p.m. - Earth Week - What's in it for ME by Andrew Welch;

April 21, 10:30 a.m. - Mill Library Story Time with Mayor and Councillor Peters

April 23, 9:30 a.m. - Tree Planting Event, Harvey Curry Park - registration required through CVC.

The committee opted to postpone the Environmental Awards to Summer/Fall of 2022.

The seed library is back and up and running at the Mill Street Library and has a designated Library staff member that is assisting in overseeing the seed library. 

The committee will cancel the May 3, 2022 meeting and therefore the next meeting is scheduled for June 7, 2022.
