The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m.

Each committee member provide a brief introduction.

Tracy Macdonald, Deputy Clerk provided committee training to the members.

There were no questions or comments related to the Terms of Reference.

    That the Age Friendly Committee meet on June 20, 2023 at 1 p.m., September 19, 2023 at 1 p.m. and November 21, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.

Sharon Doherty spoke to the annual work plan and will provide a draft of the work plan the next meeting. Sharon Doherty will research reports relating to the progress of the Age Friendly Action Plan as well as how the County of Dufferin Plan interacts and report back to the committee.

Sharon Doherty provided additional information related to the Seniors Luncheon. Town services such as fire and library will attend and games and line dancing will be available for participants. A barbecue lunch will be offered. Tickets will be on sale soon. 

Sharon Doherty advised that a proclamation will be done to proclaim June as Seniors month. A variety of activities will be offered by the Town to promote active living for seniors.

    That the committee members attend the May 27, 2023 Orangeville Farmers' Market to provide information on Seniors week events;

    And that C. Hamilton, K. Jack and A. Aguanno attend the market from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m.;

    And that L. Banks and M. Chapman attend the market from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Andy Macintosh advised the Council selected an individual as senior of the year which will be announced soon. 

The committee discussed Seniors Day at Island Lake on June 7. 

The committee also discussed learning what supports and systems are available to seniors and how to access them as well as ways to keep an up to date directory of these programs and services and how to find and engage seniors in isolation. 

The committee discussed transit service concerns and rides on demand. Tony Dulisse, Manager of Transportation and Development will be invited to the next meeting. 

The committee discussed initiatives that may be considered including addressing needs of seniors of all demographics, medical input for seniors needs, noise by-law, Dufferin County Cultural Resource Circle. 

The committee also discussed the issue of senior centres and long term care.

The committee discussed the ability to apply for grants and Sharon Doherty will report back on any grant opportunities available as well as the committee budget. 

The date of the next meeting is June 20, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.
