Councilor Andrews, Chair, called the meeting to order at 5:32 p.m.

Oscar Vigil, Executive Director, Hispanic Canadian Heritage Council, shared gratitude in seeing the Orangeville social channels promoting Hispanic Heritage month. Mr. Vigil shared the importance of heritage celebrations within the community and interest to support the Town in future collaboration efforts. 

Tim Kocialek, General Manager, Infrastructure Services and Tony Dulisse, Manager, Transportation Services spoke to the history of the Community Group Pavement Markings Update report that went to Council on Monday October 16, 2023. 

The Committee discussed further concerns about removing the crosswalks as well as suggestions for alternative options. Councillor Andrews shared the importance of providing feedback as the staff report recommends that any alternative options can be led by community groups and presented to Council.

Note: Committee Secretary to share the Community Crosswalks Update report that went to Council on Monday October 16, 2023.

Councillor Andrews provided an overview of the Committee workplan. Committee Vice Chair, Grant Spence, is available to attend Council on November 13, 2023 to speak to the Workplan.

The Committee discussed the EDI Study / Strategy workplan item and how to ensure this work is done correctly. Chris Moore, Acting General Manager, shared that the Committee could have the opportunity to specify a clear scope of work for the Request for Proposal (RFP), as this will significantly guide the outcome of the work.

Hazel Mason shared suggestion that the Committee work in partnership with relevant stakeholders.

Invitation to Attend the Navratri Garba (Nine Nights) Celebration.

Hispanic Latin American Heritage Month Movie Night.

The Committee discussed the Monday October 16, 2023, Council meeting and the ongoing discussion and awareness required. 

Cynthia Aristizábal provided an update on the Hispanic heritage month proclamation that took place on Friday October 13th, informed the Committee of the various Hispanic countries that the heritage month represents and shared that a Hispanic Latin American heritage month movie night will be taking place Tuesday October 24th. 

The Committee discussed additional upcoming Town proclamations.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday November 16th at 5:30 p.m.
